Manuel Zelaya, the president of Honduras, has been arrested by soldiers and put on a plane to Costa Rica. Shot were fired as more than a hundred soldiers surround the Presidential compound and the President was put in a van. The streets of Tegucigalpa are empty as soldiers in trucks patrol the streets. Some of Zelaya followers were in the streets however cursing at the soldiers. Zelaya has support from unions and the poor. Many of who wanted a constitution referendum that Zelaya was pushing in hopes to serve more than one term in office. The E.U. has condemned this coup and asked for Zelaya to be returned to his office. The military has says they will pick an interim President.
Was Zelaya a threat? Too much like Hugo Chavez for the military? Look for a moderate ex-politician or military man to take the Presidency but will only be a figure head.

Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani is reported to be in talking behind closed doors about the removal of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The split between the top clerics continues and the mistrust continues to grow. While street rioting and outdoor protest have been put down the mood in Tehran is tense and full of fear and hostility towards the Government. Any hope to stop the belief that the election was rigged has stopped and hardliners are just hoping that time will pass and that they can remain in power, while continuing to play the massive unrest was fermented by Britain and the U.S.

Iran was moving towards the future with this most recent elections, but with the current turmoil and riots the people show they are not satisfied with the outcome and the election. The brutal attack on the people demonstrating shows that perhaps the Iranian people know that this election stinks and the Rulers of Iran are no better that the Despots and Tyrants of the past. The tired old blame game of the U.S. and Foreign powers meddling in Iran rings hollow. The people of Iran are becoming more modern and sophisticated and the old ways cannot shut them up. Technology and freedom are pushing Iran to perhaps a better future, but for now we can only watch in horror as the Iranian people are denied their human rights of protest, assembly and free speech and are abused by their leaders.
